Our weekend at Sand Bay was one of several which I arrange each year for a group of 'senior citizen' friends, generally 12 to 16 of us. We were in total agreement in our enjoyment of all of your band's performances for us over the three nights, this relates to your choice and variety of numbers played, the musicianship and skills of your individual musicians and the timing precision between your soloists, sections and the dance tempos for the keen dancers...........what more can I say? ! So thank you very much for this, and I would appreciate you conveying our thanks and respect to all of the band members. Bob from Swindon
Well John that was a very nice surprise. Only yesterday whilst playing Bowls I was telling those around me about the superb few days of watching, listening and dancing to a REAL big band and a singer who just stood still and articulated each word--a collection of Master Musicians. I have seen many big bands in the past, but it was a distinct and great pleasure to see the George Thorby Big Band at Sand Bay. The many and varied arrangements were marvellous and the band performed in a very loose and relaxed swinging style. I particularly enjoyed the singing and playing of Ronnie Findon. He, like the band, seemed to enjoy it all so much. John Brennan was in fine voice, plus it was a treat to see Craig Douglas performing with the band. It was an added joy to see so many couples dancing in front of the bandstand, a rare sight in these modern times. It was also a great pleasure to play several titles by the band on my 'Dance Band Days' show on Thornbury FM Community Radio and to promote George and the band at the local Sand Bay venue.
